Breast lift surgery is a cosmetic procedure that redefines the breasts by trimming away excess skin and pulling tight the existing tissue to result in a firmer, younger appearance. This life-changing surgery is performed for women who have lost breast fullness and shape and who have breast sagging due to aging, significant weight loss, or nursing. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Chet Mays performs this cosmetic breast surgery at Mays Plastic Surgery & Med Spa in Louisville, KY. By incorporating the latest methods, Dr. Mays can choose the correct technique, depending on the degree of sag present in addition to the desired outcome.

What are the Benefits of a Breast Lift?

A breast lift aims to restore a more youthful and uplifted appearance to the breasts. Here are some potential benefits of a breast lift:

  • Breast rejuvenation: Over time, factors such as pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, and aging can cause the breasts to lose their firmness and elasticity. A breast lift can help reverse the effects of these factors and restore a more youthful shape and position to the breasts.
  • Enhanced self-confidence: Many women feel self-conscious and unhappy with the appearance of sagging breasts. A breast lift can help improve self-confidence and body image, allowing women to feel more comfortable and confident in their own skin.
  • Combining with other procedures: A breast lift can be combined with other breast enhancement procedures, such as breast augmentation or breast reduction, to achieve a more comprehensive result. This allows for personalized customization based on individual needs and goals.

Breast lift surgery takes about 2 – 3 hours and is performed using general anesthesia. The duration of this surgery is dependent on the complexity of breast size and sagging. There are a variety of surgical technique used for cosmetic breast lift surgery, and the technique is defined by the type of incision. The inverted-T (known as an anchor) and the vertical incisions are the most commonly used types. Once the incision is made, any wrinkly and loose skin is carefully trimmed away along with fat and tissue that is not desired. The skin is then tightened, and the breasts are lifted so they appear rejuvenated and perky. In many cases, the size of the areola is redesigned and reduced to be symmetric with the new placement and shape of the breast. At this point, an implant or a fat transfer can be inserted in the breast to add volume if this is agreed upon with Dr. Mays prior to surgery. If the lift is the only surgery being performed and if size and shape are a concern, silicone or saline implants can be done at a different date.  If an implant is not desired, select patients who have dense beast tissue can auto-augment their breast to provide fullness during the breast lift.

Am I A Candidate for A Breast Lift?

You may come to Mays Plastic Surgery & Med Spa believing you are a candidate for breast augmentation using implants, but after a physical exam, you may realize that a breast lift is better. This is dependent on the severity of the sag that is present. Breasts and nipples that point down, in most cases, need a lift to correct skin irregularities and raise the breasts higher up on the chest wall. If you have nipples that droop downward and your breasts look elongated, a mastopexy (breast lift) can dramatically help their appearance. If you are contemplating a breast lift, you must be physically healthy and at a healthy weight.

Could not be happier! - It was 11 months ago when I finally booked what I had been putting off for 5 years: a mommy makeover. I am currently 6-7 months and have finally decided to buckle down and write this review. In short, Dr. Mays and Calo Spa changed my life for the better.I went to what felt like every surgeon in Central KY for a consultation but once I met Dr. Calobrace (2016ish) I knew he was the best of the best. After I had my consult with him, several years passed before I thought: now is the time (2020)! When I started looking back into Dr. Calobrace I realized he had a new partner from the last time I saw him so I did my due diligence and had a consult with him also - Dr. Mays - who turned out to be equally brilliant. I ultimately booked my surgery with Dr. Mays on the same day as my consultation because I knew I was in the best hands. The next five months passed very quickly and before I knew it I was in pre-op getting marked up. I woke up and headed home not knowing exactly what to expect other than what I ready on a Tummy Tuck Facebook group (highly recommend!). I also had plenty of helpful materials regarding my recovery I received at my last pre-op appointment.Actual recovery is just a blip in my memory now but it was a bit challenging with a child at home, the mom guilt probably more so than physical recovery. I called into the office several times in my "two week" recovery span with questions and was always greeted by helpful staff. You just don't what it will be like until its you - every recovery is different but I feel like I aced mine. I did have to keep my drain in for an extra week (2 total) but I would have rather went an extra week draining and cleaning around it than to have had complications. The nurses made sure I knew what to look for if I ever had doubts about when to seek medical attention if needed. The breast lift was as low maintenance as it could get, just swapping out gauze and keeping everything clean. My healing started to really take off at day 4 and once I was able to start taking showers I felt tremendously better every day. I do recommend a walker for days 1-3 but for sure ditch it after that if you can; not having it really prompted my body to start standing straight - which in total took probably 3-4 weeks for me.I went back to work on day 17 with ease. I have a job with a mix of sitting and walking, on average about 7k steps a day at work which sounds terrible when you're recovering from being cut in two, but it actually helped a lot to prevent getting stiff. Before my surgery I lifted weights and ran regularly but I will admit it has been hard getting back into running. Lifting is fine but it was very difficult to learn to engage my core after so many years without properly being able to. I am now stronger than I've ever been and I owe it all to two things: my body/muscles being put back together and the confidence I now have in my body while working out. I no longer find myself tugging and pulling at clothes to hide the extra skin. Overall, I am more present as a wife, a mother, and in the gym.I went into this with very realistic expectations and Dr. Mays knocked them out of the park. My breast lift leaves nothing to be desired, my belly button is as natural looking as I asked for, and my tummy tuck checked every box I hoped it would. I had a small amount complementary lipo but if I could go back I would have opted for more due to where I hold weight (in my back). There was never a time, from booking my consultation to my 6 month follow up that I did not feel like Dr. Mays and his staff cared for me like family. If you're on the fence, just do it.

I have full faith and trust in Chet Mays - I found Dr. Mays through plenty of research and I am thankful I did. I was having pain with my implants and Dr. Mays and his staff explained my options and helped me with any questions I had. I ended up needing surgery to replace my implants due to the fact that both had capsular contracture and a breast lift. It has been 3 weeks since my surgery and I am happy with my results. I have had a lot of questions and concerns with my recovery, no matter who I speak to or see for my visit in the office they all know who I am and my situation. I never felt like a number when calling or visiting the office. When picking a surgeon/practice your first instinct might be cost, my suggestion is to let cost be the last driving factor on who you select to perform any procedure. Your first factors should be reputation, experience and customer reviews. I have full faith and trust in Chet Mays and CaloAesthetics Plastic Surgery Center!!!

I'm officially 11days post op from my extended tummy tuck, brachioplasty and breast lift(without implants) and I have to say I am so impressed. First, shout out to the wonderful staff. My husband and I love Lawanda! She's the most helpful nurse ever, making the entire experience super easy and relaxed(even when I was a difficult patient with lots of questions.) The staff at River Ridge (current surgery center) are also wonderful and gave me my best surgery experience to date. They made the whole process seamless and calmed my nerves. Then, there was the surgery and results. Dr. Mays was great to work with from the very first meeting to the last appointment. And the results he gave me -5 stars!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I personally love my new breast. I couldn't believe it when I seen them the day after surgery. I had lost over 150 lbs prior to surgery and they were so sad and saggy. He restored their youth and perkiness!! I was shocked, I really had given up hope for them. My husband's favorite part was my tummy. He couldn't believe how good it looked. He himself(down 100lbs) is considering getting a tummy tuck from Mays after seeing my results. I had done several consultations with other PS in the area before choosing Mays. At the end of the day I couldn't be happier with my decision. Now I know why he calls the OR an art studio.

Dr. Mays did my Mommy Makeover. I wasn’t an easy case. I have Crohn’s disease and an emergency surgery left a horrible scar down the middle of my abdomen and muscles put back together unevenly. Add in four pregnancies, it was hard to look at. Dr. Mays made me feel secure and safe. I knew I was in the absolute best hands. My surgery went perfect. I had a muscle repair, tummy tuck, and breast lift. I am so happy with my results. His work was flawless. The staff was so supportive and helped with the entire process. Anytime I had a question Dr. Mays himself was happy to respond and help with anything. I have sent/referred all of my friends and family to Mays Plastic Surgery. I wouldn’t trust anyone else. His work is truly amazing.

I had my 6 month post surgery follow up yesterday, and have been completely thrilled with Dr Mays and team every step of the way. I recommend Dr Mays with the highest endorsement and superlatives I can express. As a physician myself, I did a lot of comparison shopping when choosing my plastic surgeon for my breast lift and reduction surgery. It was not a decision I took lightly. Dr Mays possesses not just the highest technical skill, but also the artistry that makes his outcomes so outstanding. I feel amazing, and am over the moon pleased with my results. For the first time since the age of 13, I feel like my body is proportional, can actually button a shirt, and no longer have chronic upper back and neck pain. Dr Mays, and his whole team, answered every question, addressed each concern, and were super attentive throughout the entire process. I received the very best care and attention. If you are considering cosmetic surgery, I highly recommend Dr Mays and his wonderful team. They are the very best.
