How is Breast Reduction Surgery Performed?
Breast reduction surgery is an outpatient treatment and is performed with the patient under general anesthesia. The timeframe for the surgery is dependent upon a few factors, including what incision method is used, the overall reduction technique, and finally, the degree of reduction. The nipple and areola repositioning is also a factor. For most patients, liposuction is used for tissue and fat reduction to reduce breast size. During the consultation, all of these aspects are addressed with Dr. Mays. Potential scarring is also thoroughly discussed as it is common to occur. However, advanced techniques have led to a noticeable reduction in the visibility of scarring. Depending on the intricacy of the reduction, either an inverted-T or a straight line (vertical) incision will be used. Breast fat and tissue will be removed, and the remaining skin and tissue will be tightened.

Dr Mays and his staff are truly one of a kind and flat out AMAZING! The minute I had my first consult with him I knew I didn't need to look any further. I am 8 months post-op from lipo, breast reduction and tummy tuck. Unfortunately, I had a little setback from a large seroma several months ago that caused some elasticity problems. I had the best day at Mays!! I took my friend to get a breast reduction and I enjoyed a discount on the best massage I have ever had!! Sherie Bennett was my massage therapist! She was very Comforting and professional! She was very well seasoned, definitely knew what she was doing!!! I felt so great afterwards!!! After the massage I took a relaxing shower!! The lounge was filled with everything I needed! They had brushes you could recycle or in my case I took it with me to put in my gym bag! Deodorant, lotion and I was given a cup of lemon water with yummy nugget ice!! After my shower I relaxed in the waiting room and sipped on Nespresso and drank Fuji water while watching a movie!! Everyone there was so inviting and sweet especially John Michael Woodlee which is one of the receptionist! The atmosphere was amazing!! Everything was decorated so cute and with a very luxury aesthetic feel!! I will definitely be back!! 10 Stars!!!
I am just blown away by this office. I’ve been considering breast reduction surgery for a long time. For some background, I’ve had disproportionately large breasts since adolescence, but my “last straw” was when they grew about 4 sizes AFTER I fractured my spine in multiple places from a horseback riding fall. The extra weight and resulting poor posture were making my now-chronic back pain worse and worse. I was looking for plastic surgeons online one night and came across Mays Plastic Surgery. They have all 5 star ratings across multiple reviews and platforms when no one else did. In a moment of bravery, I decided to fill out their consultation form on the website that night. From there, they called me, we set up a surgical consultation, and I went to that, not fully knowing what to expect. They eased my anxiety in every way the whole time I was there. The process was explained, they were happy to answer all of the many questions I had, and the bedside manner of all of the nurses and Dr. Mays himself was just wonderful. The pre-op appointment was even easier because they had already eased so many of my worries at the consultation. They never made me uncomfortable, even through the unavoidable exposure so that they could measure, plan, and take before pics. Surgery day was easier than I ever expected. Everyone was so kind and genuinely caring and excited for/with me. Fast forward and the days following the surgery, I’ve had virtually zero pain! I’m only 5 days post-op, but I couldn’t even wait to write a review because everything from this office has exceeded all expectations. Dr. Mays was the second consultation I went to for my breast augmentation and lift. The first consultation I went to in Indianapolis, I left feeling uneasy and just not a great gut feeling, so I went to Dr May’s and his staff for a second consultation, and I’m so glad that I did. I could not recommend Dr. Mays and his team at Mays Plastic Surgery and The Spa at MPS enough. Not only are the staff compassionate, personable, and down to earth— but they produce truly amazing results. Will my nipples be moved?
In most cases, the nipples and areola will be moved up to a central position during breast reduction surgery. If a large amount of tissue and skin are being removed, your nipple-areola complex may need to be moved. Dr. Mays will select a technique like an anchor incision so the nipple and areola can be moved higher. It's also possible to perform an areolatome to reduce the size of the areolas. Your options will be discussed during your consultation before Dr. Mays helps you choose the best treatment plan to achieve your goals.
